14 Workers Arrested at Mohammed V Airport for Stealing a Shipment of 600 Mobile Phones

CasablancaFourteen workers from a handling company operating in the cargo zone of Mohammed V International Airport have been arrested by the Royal Gendarmerie, following a complaint from an exporting company regarding the disappearance of a shipment containing over 600 mobile phones.

The shipment was destined for a sub-Saharan African country, but upon discovery of the missing devices, authorities launched an investigation, leading to the detention and questioning of the workers before they were referred to the Public Prosecutor at the Casablanca Court of Appeal.

Judicial Proceedings and Investigation Progress

On Tuesday, the investigating judge of the Fourth Chamber decided to:

  • Remand 10 suspects in custody at Oukacha Prison
  • Release 4 others on bail

The judge also postponed the detailed investigation until next week to:

  • Summon and confront the suspects to determine their level of involvement
  • Examine deeper findings that may reveal links to networks selling stolen or illicit goods in Casablanca markets

Authorities are also monitoring potential black-market distribution channels that may be involved in fencing the stolen mobile phones, as investigations into the organized theft operation continue.
