Severe Floods Hit Areas in Morocco, Causing Significant Damage

The cities of Tinghir, Ouarzazate, and Midelt in Morocco experienced severe floods on Friday evening due to heavy rainfall, resulting in substantial material damage.

According to official sources reported by the Moroccan site “Hespress,” several areas experienced heavy rain within a few hours, leading to strong water flows in valleys and rivers. These floods disrupted traffic and the movement of citizens, and also affected truck and public transport operations.

In light of these conditions, the Regional Directorate of Equipment and Water in the Drâa-Tafilalet region issued a warning to road users, urging them to exercise extreme caution. They also emphasized the need to follow safety instructions and avoid driving in areas vulnerable to flooding and adverse weather conditions.

The Moroccan site “Keefesh” reported that the floods in the city of Tinghir caused material damage and losses in the agricultural sector.

It’s worth noting that the Directorate General of Meteorology had issued an orange-level warning, predicting thunderstorms with rainfall ranging from 15 to 25 mm, accompanied by hail and strong winds in several areas of the kingdom. The warning covered the cities of Ouarzazate, Azilal, Figuig, Boulemane, Errachidia, Midelt, and Tinghir, with the expectation that this weather condition would continue from 5:30 PM until midnight.
