Spanish Magazine : Morocco Poised to Become Europe’s Future Automotive Production Leader
The Spanish magazine “Gizmodo” highlighted Morocco’s growing prominence in the automotive industry, positioning itself as a key player in attracting investments from major European manufacturers.
In an article titled “Morocco, the Future Leader in Automotive Production for Europe,” the magazine emphasized that low production costs and abundant renewable energy resources have driven manufacturers like Stellantis and Renault to relocate the production of strategic models to their facilities in Morocco.
According to Gizmodo, these advantages have solidified Morocco’s status as a “major production hub for the European automotive industry.” Lower labor costs and reduced electricity prices, bolstered by the country’s commitment to renewable energy, have encouraged companies such as Stellantis and Renault to expand their production capacity in Morocco, thereby boosting their global competitiveness.
The magazine noted that Stellantis plans to double the production capacity of its Kenitra plant to 450,000 units annually by 2025 as a result of new investments. Currently, Morocco produces around 700,000 vehicles annually, a figure projected to surpass one million by 2027. Models such as Peugeot 208, Citroën Ami, Opel Rocks, and Fiat Topolino are already part of the production portfolio.
To support this growth, the Moroccan government has expanded the capacity of the Tangier Automotive City in the Tangier Med Port, a key export hub for cars destined for Europe.
The magazine concluded by underlining Morocco’s dynamic automotive sector, which demonstrates its strength on the global stage. The combination of cost efficiency and sustainability positions Morocco as a crucial player in meeting Europe’s automotive production needs while maintaining a strong focus on renewable energy and economic competitiveness.
