Union Warns of the Spread of “Bohmaroun” Among Children in the Al-Madiq Al-Fannidq Province
Amid the ongoing deterioration of health conditions in the Al-Madiq Al-Fannidq Province, the Regional Office of the National Health Union, affiliated with the General Union of Moroccan Workers, expressed deep concern over the increasing spread of measles (“Bohmaroun”), which poses a serious threat to the health of children before adults.
The Regional Office of the National Health Union stated in a communiqué, to which “Al Khabria” received a copy, that the catastrophic situation is worsening due to the absence of immediate intervention from the authorities responsible for health affairs in the Al-Madiq Al-Fannidq Province. This reflects a weak health response and a lack of planning to confront this looming danger. The office has recently observed an escalation in the spread of the disease, with a rising number of infections, at a time when healthcare facilities are suffering from a severe shortage of essential medicines and medical supplies necessary for treating patients.
The communiqué continued that the Pediatric Department at Mohammed VI Hospital in Al-Madiq is experiencing a tremendous shortage of human resources, with only one pediatrician and one nurse available. This severely hampers their ability to provide the necessary care to patients and cope with the immense pressure resulting from the current working conditions. The office also noted the absence of any preventive or therapeutic protocols in the emergency departments, which threatens the safety of patients, accompanying persons, and healthcare staff alike.
The union office condemned the complete silence of the officials responsible for managing the health sector in the Al-Madiq Al-Fannidq Province during the release of the communiqué, emphasizing that this apparent negligence endangers the lives of many children and threatens to cause a real health catastrophe if the situation remains unchanged.
The office called for immediate and urgent intervention from all relevant government authorities to provide medicines and medical supplies, activate the guard system for the Pediatric Department at Mohammed VI Hospital, and employ more medical and nursing staff, giving priority to the Pediatric Department, which is under immense pressure.
The office concluded its statement by praising the efforts of the healthcare staff in addressing this situation and providing necessary care to patients within the available means. It placed the responsibility for this catastrophic situation on the supervisory bodies of the sector, headed by the Regional Health Delegate of the Al-Madiq Al-Fannidq Province, urging them to act swiftly to prevent further loss of lives. The office affirmed its continued struggle for the right to health for all citizens.
