Amine Adli Sidelined Until End of 2024
Moroccan international Amine Adli will be out of action until January next year after undergoing surgery following a leg fracture sustained during Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-1 draw against Brest in the third round of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Bayer Leverkusen confirmed the diagnosis in a statement on Thursday, noting that Adli underwent surgery later that day.
The 24-year-old winger had to leave the field just 18 minutes after replacing Czech international Patrik Schick, and he was substituted by French player Martin Terrier in the 81st minute.
Adli’s injury occurred following a hard tackle from behind by defender Soumaila Coulibaly, causing him to fall to the ground, screaming in pain and immediately requesting to be substituted.
Leverkusen confirmed that Adli suffered a “fracture of the left fibula” and, following surgery, he will be out until “January 2025.”
Leverkusen’s coach, Xabi Alonso, expressed his sadness, stating, “We are sad for Amine, it doesn’t look good.”
Alonso further remarked after the match that the injury was “the worst news of the day.”
Adli’s absence comes at a particularly challenging time for Leverkusen, with five matches scheduled over the next 16 days. He had featured in all 11 of Leverkusen’s matches across competitions this season.
