Bangladesh: Over 50 People Die Due to Floods in the East of the Country
Widespread floods lasting for more than a week have resulted in the deaths of over 50 people in eastern Bangladesh.
The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief announced on Thursday that the floods claimed 52 lives and affected approximately 5.5 million people across 11 regions.
The causes of these floods are attributed to continuous heavy rainfall combined with water flow from mountainous areas, leading to rising river levels and widespread destruction.
Volunteers and government teams are working diligently to reach remote villages and provide aid to those in need, despite the water receding in some affected areas.
The government has announced plans to begin rehabilitation operations in the affected areas once the water fully recedes, and has urged all relevant parties to take necessary measures to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases in the aftermath of the floods.
