Biden Warns of Full-Scale War and Calls for Two-State Solution Amid Rising Tensions in the Middle East
In notable remarks made by U.S. President Joe Biden during his appearance on ABC’s “The View,” he warned of the possibility of a full-scale war erupting in the Middle East. Despite this serious warning, Biden expressed cautious optimism about reaching an agreement to avoid this catastrophic scenario for the region.
In a clear stance, the U.S. President stated his disagreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasizing the necessity of achieving a two-state solution as the only path to lasting peace in the region. Biden noted that a ceasefire in Lebanon could help focus efforts on improving the situation in the West Bank, which could open new opportunities for peace.
Biden stressed the strong desire in the Arab world to find a just solution to the Palestinian issue, mentioning his ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza. These statements come amid the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza that began on October 7 of the previous year, which has resulted so far in more than 137,000 casualties and injuries, in addition to a large number of missing persons.
In a worrying development, the scope of Israeli military operations extended to include the West Bank, leading to the martyrdom of 717 Palestinians and injuring approximately 5,750 others. Lebanon has also witnessed an Israeli military escalation described as “the most violent and extensive,” which resulted in 615 casualties, including children and women, and the displacement of nearly 390,000 people.
