Bourita: Algeria Aims to Drag the Region Towards Confrontation and War
Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita warned during his presentation to the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives of attempts to drag the region into war, noting a regional escalation and Algeria’s intent to move from conflict to confrontation.
Bourita estimated the cost of global wars at around $17 trillion, significantly impacting the global economy. He pointed out that there are currently around 39 armed conflicts and 200 armed groups active worldwide.
Bourita emphasized that the balance of global power is shifting, where the “law of force” is now prevailing over the “rule of law,” and highlighted that the United Nations remains incapable of addressing international crises.
He noted that the global arms race has reached unprecedented levels, surpassing even the Cold War era, with the proliferation and easy sale of weapons to those with the capacity to produce them.
Bourita stressed that the international situation is increasingly tense, with rising tendencies towards confrontation and the dominance of military force over international laws amid the absence of quick solutions.
He concluded his presentation by affirming that confrontational tendencies are intensifying globally, raising the likelihood of worsening crises, while international institutions remain unable to resolve the escalating issues.
