CAF President Motsepe Praises Morocco’s Role in Supporting African Football and Considers it a Leading Sports Model

During his visit to the city of Salé on Friday, Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), expressed his deep gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the noble initiative of hosting African national teams lacking qualified stadiums on Moroccan soil.

In his meeting with Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Motsepe commended the exceptional efforts made by the Federation to advance Moroccan football and strengthen cooperation with African countries. He expressed his happiness and pride whenever he visits Morocco, referring to it as his “second home,” highlighting the strong ties between Morocco and CAF and its pivotal role in supporting African football.

Motsepe emphasized CAF’s great confidence in Morocco as a host for continental tournaments, noting that the kingdom possesses unique attributes that make it one of the premier sports and tourism destinations in Africa. He affirmed that the success of Moroccan editions of football tournaments reflects the kingdom’s ability to organize world-class sporting events, predicting high viewership for competitions hosted by Morocco.

On the topic of sporting achievements, Motsepe pointed to the Moroccan national team’s historic run to the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, describing it as a “milestone moment” that brought pride to all African nations. He asserted that Morocco has become a model for African teams aspiring to achieve global success.

Regarding the joint organization of the 2030 FIFA World Cup by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, Motsepe described the project as an “unprecedented achievement,” considering it a boost to Morocco’s and Africa’s stature on the global stage. He emphasized that this event represents a shared pride for all Africans and offers a historic opportunity to showcase Africa’s capabilities and its potential to contribute to hosting major global sports events.

Motsepe concluded by reaffirming CAF’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Morocco and supporting all efforts aimed at developing African football. He underscored the significant leadership role Morocco plays in shaping a bright future for football on the continent.
