Enforced Imprisonment for Those Involved in the Safro School Support Funds Embezzlement Scandal

The Primary Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Fez issued sentences totaling 12 years of enforced imprisonment yesterday evening, Tuesday, against those involved in what has become known as the “Embezzlement and Seizure Network of School Support Funds.”

The court sentenced the head of an association in Safro to four years of enforced imprisonment after convicting her of embezzlement and misappropriating funds from educational support projects. Her association had benefited from these projects under the National Human Development Initiative. Investigations concluded that she was involved in manipulating the budgets of these projects, which are estimated to be in the millions.

The treasurer was also convicted of the same penalty, while the sentences for the other defendants ranged from two years to one year of enforced imprisonment. Additionally, the court imposed varying financial fines on the defendants and mandated the return of the embezzled amounts and compensation to the affected parties.

The defendants were charged with serious offenses, including forgery of customary documents and their use, embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds, receiving benefits in a public institution they managed or supervised, and participation in embezzlement and misappropriation.
