Gallant Warns of an “Unstoppable War” and Submits a Request to Netanyahu
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant called on Sunday for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to conduct discussions on a Gaza ceasefire agreement with the full cabinet instead of the current small group.
The current small group includes Netanyahu, Gallant, Minister Ron Dermer, and Knesset Member Aryeh Deri.
Channel 12 reported Gallant’s statement that “the deliberations about the deal have immense national significance, extending beyond the terms for the return of hostages to the potential outbreak of a regional war.”
Gallant pointed out that “Israel is at a strategic crossroads… In the absence of an agreement, there is an increasing risk of military escalation that could lead to an uncontrollable regional war involving Hezbollah and Iran.” He added, “Therefore, the responsibility for negotiations should be entrusted to all members of the cabinet.”
Currently, the full cabinet seeks only the final approval of the potential agreement, but, as reported, Gallant is demanding that Netanyahu hold discussions with the full government due to the “potential implications.”
A source noted that Gallant made this request twice, first on Thursday and then on Sunday, in the presence of three senior security officials, but Netanyahu has not yet agreed.
