In a Serious Escalation, Ukraine Launches Major Drone Attack on Moscow and Other Areas

Russia announced today, Wednesday, that it thwarted a “large-scale” Ukrainian drone attack targeting the capital, Moscow, accusing Western intelligence agencies of participating in the Ukrainian incursion in the Kursk region. Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed to “retaliate against the aggressors.”

Russian officials reported that Ukraine launched an intensive drone attack, with air defense units successfully shooting down three drones about 38 kilometers south of the Kremlin and 15 over the Bryansk border region.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated in the early hours that Russian air defenses repelled ten drones launched by Kyiv towards the capital, describing the operation as “one of the largest attacks” on Moscow since the start of the conflict.

Sobyanin added on Telegram that three assault drones heading towards Moscow were shot down over the city of Podolsk in the Moscow region, confirming that preliminary data indicated “no damage or injuries at the debris site.”

In the Bryansk border region in southwestern Russia, no casualties or damage were reported from the drone attack, according to Alexander Bogomaz, the regional governor, on Telegram.

The Russian official news agency confirmed that air defenses also shot down two drones over the Tula region, adjacent to the Moscow region from the north.

In a separate development, Vasily Golubev, the governor of Russia’s southwestern Rostov region, announced that air defense forces destroyed a missile launched by Ukraine, with no reports of injuries.

The exact number of drones and missiles launched by Ukraine remains uncertain, and Reuters could not independently verify these reports, while no comment has been issued by Ukraine so far.
