Iran Unveils Final Report on Causes of Raisi’s Helicopter Crash
On Sunday, Iranian television revealed that the final report on the investigation into the death of former President Ibrahim Raisi showed that the helicopter in which he was traveling crashed primarily due to poor weather conditions, including dense fog.
Raisi, a conservative seen as a possible successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, died when his helicopter crashed in May in a mountainous area near the Azerbaijan border.
The state television reported that the final report concluded that “the main cause of the helicopter crash was the complex weather conditions in the area.”
The report, issued by a high-level committee commissioned by the Iranian military to investigate the incident, stated that a dense fog bank caused the helicopter carrying Raisi and his companions to collide with a mountain.
An initial report by the Iranian military in May stated that there was no indication of foul play or an attack during the investigation into Raisi’s helicopter crash.
