Israel Warns Western Countries of Algerian Military Support for the Polisario
The military support Algeria provides to the separatist Polisario Front is raising increasing international concerns about the stability of North Africa. These concerns are growing amid warnings that this military backing could destabilize regional security, heightening tensions and impacting the security of neighboring countries and Europe.
In this regard, the newspaper Sahel Intelligence reported that Israel has warned Western countries about the risks of Algeria arming the Polisario Front with advanced weapons, which could exacerbate security challenges for neighboring countries and have repercussions for Europe across the Mediterranean.
The newspaper highlighted that Algerian Chief of Staff General Saïd Chengriha plays a central role in leading Algeria’s support for the Polisario. His inclination to supply the Polisario with advanced air defense systems increases the likelihood of escalating tensions in the region, thereby endangering regional and international security.
These warnings come amid Algeria’s increasingly hostile stance toward Morocco, a country seen as a source of security and stability in the region. This escalation raises concerns among neighboring African and European nations, as Algeria’s growing support for the Polisario, coupled with the latter’s ties to terrorist groups and smuggling networks, poses a threat to regional security and stability.
