Lawyers in Morocco Prepare for Protests and an Expanded Advocacy Program

The Association of Bar Associations in Morocco announced its intention to organize protests for female and male lawyers across various associations on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, while continuing to wear protest armbands over their formal attire. The association has also prepared programs for holding seminars and meetings in Rabat and Marrakech during September and October.

In a statement issued by the association, a copy of which was obtained by “Al Khabriya,” it was clarified that the association’s office continued its meeting held in Rabat last Saturday, where discussions were conducted on new professional developments and draft laws related to the profession. The meeting included discussions on the implementation of the draft Civil Procedure Law after its passage in the House of Representatives and its referral to the House of Councillors, as well as the draft Criminal Procedure Law and notifications received by some lawyers from the National Social Security Fund.

The statement mentioned the positive spirit demonstrated by the lawyers during the protest in front of the parliament on July 27, 2024, emphasizing the importance of maintaining enthusiasm among professionals and their solidarity around their strong professional institution.

The association’s office stressed its firm determination to confront any attempt to undermine justice and the legal and constitutional rights of Moroccan citizens and their defenders. It urged lawyers who received notifications from the National Social Security Fund to collaborate with the senior attorneys regarding the implementation of procedures agreed upon by the association.

The statement also highlighted that lawyers and their families benefit from basic health coverage through the General Mutual Fund of Moroccan Bar Associations, which is considered an indispensable social achievement. The office affirmed its commitment to continue its advocacy efforts by adopting a comprehensive program aimed at achieving the legitimate and indivisible demands of lawyers.
