The recent floods in Niger, as of August 14th, have resulted in the deaths of approximately 131 people, injured 133 others, and affected more than 31,963 people. This is according to data from the civil protection services in this West African country.
Niger News Agency reported from the civil protection services on Wednesday that “51 deaths were due to drowning, while 80 others resulted from landslides, in addition to the 133 injured.”
The source also noted that the toll includes damage to 245,098 people, the collapse of 26,914 homes, and the loss of more than 16,505 heads of livestock, pointing out that this natural disaster affected 49 districts, 146 municipalities, and 1,015 villages and neighborhoods.
According to the Niger civil protection services, the floods also swept away a total of 389 grain storage facilities.
