Russian Interior Ministry Issues Statement on Moscow Grand Mosque Incident
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Saturday evening that the object that two individuals attempted to bring into the territory of the Islamic complex at the Moscow Grand Mosque was a souvenir and posed no security threat.
A source in the ministry told the “Novosti” agency that “the police received a report today about unknown individuals on Vypolzov Street carrying a suspicious object. Police officers immediately rushed to the location, and upon inspection, it was confirmed that the object was merely a souvenir and did not represent any threat.”
Earlier in the day, Damir Mukhin, the first deputy head of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia, confirmed that the mosque’s security guards detained two Turkish citizens who were in possession of an object resembling a hand grenade.
Mukhin emphasized that the mosque’s security responds swiftly and systematically to such situations and works to ensure the safety of worshippers and visitors.
This incident comes at a time when Russian authorities continue to strengthen security measures in public places, especially in mosques and religious centers.
