SefrouPress Foundation’s Media Group Condemns Threats by Taza Municipality President Against One of Its Professional Journalists
The media group of the Sefrou Press Foundation for Media and Communication received with great dismay the threats and intimidation faced by our professional journalist colleague, Mohamed Haris, by the President of Taza Municipality. This occurred during a phone call today at 6 PM via the WhatsApp messaging application, in which the president said, “I will show you who the scum is, you scum,” a threat that our colleague handled with professionalism, understanding that the president’s reaction was a result of the journalist performing his duty.
While the media group of the Sefrou Press Foundation condemns this heinous act, which is outdated and unacceptable, it announces the following to the public:
- Absolute and unconditional solidarity with colleague Mohamed Haris following the threats he received, known for his adherence to journalistic ethics.
- Considering this threat a desperate attempt by the president to suppress press freedom and to confiscate our colleague’s right to practice his work in investigation and inquiry.
- Requesting the Public Prosecution in Taza to open an investigation into the circumstances of this threat and to provide protection to the professional journalist while he conducts his duties under the law.
