Seismologist Comments on the Hama Quake: Prepare for Stronger Shocks in the Coming Days
Following the tremor that shook areas on the Syrian-Jordanian border, Dutch seismologist Frank Hoogerbeits has entered the discussion.
In a tweet on his account on the platform “X” today, Friday, he warned of larger quakes coming soon.
He also urged residents of the area to be on alert in the coming days.
Warning for August 18 and 19 The controversial figure had also warned days earlier about the possibility of tremors on August 18 and 19, suggesting that there could be quakes in the Marmara region of Turkey as well, noting that all seismologists assert that it is impossible to predict the exact date of earthquakes or tremors.
Earlier today, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Syrian-Jordanian border area, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), indicating that it was at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Residents in various parts of Syria and Lebanon felt the tremor, as well as in some Turkish regions.
Around 17 people were reported injured in the city of Salmiyah in western Syria, according to official news agency reports.
It is worth noting that a 4.8 magnitude earthquake also struck the city of Hama in western Syria late on Monday, causing a state of panic with dozens injured but no reported fatalities.
