Storm “Ewan” Causes Power Outages for Thousands of Homes in Ireland
Storm “Ewan” has left approximately 74,000 customers in Ireland without electricity, a week after it swept through the country, as efforts to restore the power grid continue.
The outages were concentrated in the northwestern regions, particularly in the counties of Galway, Leitrim, Cavan, and Mayo.
In a statement, the Irish Electricity Supply Board indicated that reconnecting customers to the grid could take until next Thursday, noting that the next phase of repairs will be more complex compared to last week.
Meanwhile, Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin stressed the need to strengthen the country’s ability to withstand increasingly severe storms. He announced that a meeting would be held to assess the storm’s impact and discuss strategies for dealing with future weather challenges.
Martin also emphasized the necessity of substantial investments in the electricity network to cope with the rising frequency and intensity of storms over the past decade.
