The Algerian Army Complains of Starvation Amid Predictions of a Fierce Conflict Within the Military Institution

Amid the successive crises in Algeria, the conditions of Algerian soldiers, who face difficult living situations despite the massive budget allocated by the regime to the army amounting to 13 billion dollars, are worsening.

The soldiers published a photo of a simple food plate that does not correspond to the budget allocated to the army, highlighting the stark contrast between military spending and the deteriorating living conditions of the soldiers.

Although Algeria enjoys significant natural resources, this dire situation has driven many soldiers to flee to European countries, where they have become fierce opponents of the Algerian military regime. The low wages received by the soldiers, which do not exceed $286 per month, make a decent life impossible, especially with the continuous rise in prices.

This situation has pushed some soldiers to escape in clandestine migration boats or even collaborate with drug smuggling networks spread across southern Algeria, reflecting a state of tension within the army, which is considered the backbone of the Algerian regime. It raises questions about the country’s fate amid escalating internal crises.

The Algerian people, who themselves suffer from poverty and unemployment, find themselves facing a regime that relies on repression and intimidation to ensure its stay in power. Repressive forces conduct random abductions of anyone expressing discontent with the country’s dire situation.

It is noted that the military institution in Algeria is undergoing an internal conflict that threatens to radically change the country’s landscape. It is now seen as a tool in the hands of Eastern generals led by General Chengriha, especially those hailing from Biskra, to confront the dominance of Western elites. After being hidden for years, this conflict has now become public, with Eastern generals seeking to eliminate the traditional dominance of Western elites and take control of military and political decisions in the country.
