United Nations: Akhannouch Highlights King’s Vision for Moving from Crisis Management to a Final Solution in the Middle East

United Nations: In front of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch highlighted on Tuesday Morocco’s stance on the Middle East conflict as outlined by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, aiming to transition from crisis management to working towards a final solution.

Mr. Akhannouch recalled that His Majesty emphasized that “attention to our country’s internal affairs does not make us forget the tragedy experienced by the brotherly Palestinian people,” as stated in his speech on the 25th anniversary of his accession to the throne, affirming that Morocco places the Palestinian issue on par with the national cause.

In this speech, delivered in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita and Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Omar Hilale, the Prime Minister noted that the Kingdom joins other Islamic and Arab nations in expressing profound concern over the grave and unprecedented situation in the occupied Palestinian territories since October 2023, which has resulted in thousands of civilian casualties and extensive destruction, blatantly violating international laws.

He noted that while reaching a ceasefire in Gaza is an urgent priority, as clarified by His Majesty, it should be accompanied by opening a political horizon capable of establishing a just and lasting peace in the region.

Mr. Akhannouch added, based on the King’s address, that reviving the peace process through negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli parties requires blocking extremists from any side.

The third axis of this royal vision is that establishing security and stability in the region will only be complete within the framework of a two-state solution, with Gaza being an integral part of the independent Palestinian state, and its capital being East Jerusalem.

During his speech at the high-level meeting of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Akhannouch also recalled that His Majesty, as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, affiliated to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, facilitated an unprecedented land route to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.

The Prime Minister addressed the current escalation in the Middle East, noting that Morocco expresses deep concern over an unprecedented situation that could expand the scope of the conflict and draw the entire region into an unpredictable phase.

He emphasized that His Majesty the King pointed out that the political deadlock in the Palestinian issue is one of the main reasons fueling the conflict in the Middle East.

In this context, the Prime Minister expressed Morocco’s full solidarity with Lebanon, both its government and people, in facing aggression, stressing the need to respect the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of this brotherly country.
