Wall Street Drops After Weak Housing Data
Major Wall Street indexes fell at the open today, Friday, after a weak report on new housing starts dampened sentiment, following the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indexes posting gains for the sixth consecutive session thanks to signs that the U.S. economy is in good shape.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 34.2 points, or 0.08%, at the open to 40,528.86 points, according to Reuters.
The S&P 500 opened down 12.7 points, or 0.23%, at 5,530.5 points.
The Nasdaq Composite also lost 78.1 points, or 0.44%, to reach 17,516.404 at the open.
