Widespread Ridicule Follows Algerian Ambassador Due to ‘Morocco Curse’

The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad announced today, Thursday, that the Portuguese government has approved the appointment of Said Moussi as the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Republic of Portugal.

Looking into the diplomatic career of Algerian Ambassador Said Moussi, his name has been associated in recent years with repeated “withdrawals,” due to the “Morocco curse” that seems to follow Algerian officials everywhere as international recognitions of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara continue.

In this context, the Algerian regime previously appointed Said Moussi as Algeria’s ambassador to Spain, before withdrawing him shortly after Madrid recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara. For the same reason, he was withdrawn a second time, but this time from Paris following France’s official announcement of its support for Morocco’s autonomy plan proposed in 2007.

This new appointment has sparked widespread ridicule on social media, given Morocco’s role in the ambassador’s multiple withdrawals, leading some observers to speculate about the possibility of another withdrawal following his appointment in Lisbon.
