With 100% Moroccan Expertise: Accelerating the Construction of the Largest Dam Being Built in Morocco with a Progress Rate Over 41%
The Ministry of Equipment and Water, along with 100% Moroccan expertise and personnel, continues its work to complete the construction of the “Kheneg Grou” Dam located in the Figuig province. The progress has surpassed 41%, with the completion pace being accelerated.
The construction is expected to be finished by the beginning of July 2026, according to “Maa Dialna” website, quoting Moulay Hassan Faiq, the head of the construction preparation of the “Kheneg Grou” Dam, following the high royal directives in this regard.
The head of the dam’s construction preparation explained that there were water flows that filled the temporary diversion canals of the dam with a flow reaching 364 cubic meters. The official also revealed the commencement of laying roller-compacted concrete at the riverbed, following the completion of excavation works and the placement of contact concrete at the riverbed.
The director of the dam construction emphasized that the goals of its completion include supplying drinking water, irrigating agricultural lands downstream of the dam, recharging the water table, and protecting against floods, in addition to developing the touristic, economic, and social aspects of the region where the structure is located.
It is noteworthy that the “Kheneg Grou” Dam is considered the fifth largest dam in Morocco, with a storage capacity of 1,069 million cubic meters. The construction cost is approximately 1,200 million dirhams, mainly aiming to irrigate agricultural lands, provide flood protection, and artificially recharge water tables.
