Foiling an Attempt to Smuggle 72 kg of Cocaine Through Tangier Med Port and Guerguerat Border

On Saturday, the National Security and Customs Services successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 72 kilograms and 180 grams of cocaine during two separate operations at the Tangier Med Port and the Guerguerat border crossing south of Dakhla.

A security source reported that the first operation took place at the Guerguerat crossing, where authorities discovered 197 slabs of cocaine carefully hidden inside an international freight truck arriving from a sub-Saharan African country. The total weight of cocaine seized in this operation was 55 kilograms and 950 grams. The truck driver, a 55-year-old man, was arrested.

In the second operation, security and customs officials at Tangier Med Port detected 14 slabs of cocaine inside a maritime freight container originating from a Latin American country. This shipment weighed 16 kilograms and 230 grams.

Specialized judicial police have launched an investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to identify those involved in this smuggling attempt and to trace the trafficking routes and destinations. Coordination is also underway with Interpol offices in the countries linked to this smuggling route.

These continuous security operations reflect Morocco’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and bolstering efforts to secure borders and fight organized crime.
