Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Provence landing, which took place today, Thursday, in Saint-Raphael (Southeast France), presided over by French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Prime Minister was accompanied during this ceremony, held at the Boulouris National Cemetery in Saint-Raphael, by His Majesty’s Ambassador to Paris, Samira Sitail. This event is part of a series of international commemorations organized throughout this year to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the landing operations. It pays tribute to the souls of 350,000 soldiers who landed on August 15, 1944, in Provence, most of them French and soldiers from African countries, including many Moroccans.
The commemoration was marked by tribute speeches and President Macron’s decoration of three veterans who fought alongside the Allies during World War II, including Moroccan Larbi Jaoua, who received the Knight of the Legion of Honor.
