In a pivotal move both diplomatically and regionally, Ghana announced the withdrawal of its recognition of the phantom republic, amidst a significant shift that reflects the growing support for Morocco’s stance on Western Sahara. This step comes at a sensitive time when the Western Sahara issue is witnessing consecutive victories for Moroccan diplomacy.
In this context, Dr. Ahmed Al-Dardari, head of the International Center for Crisis Monitoring and Policy Foresight, stated that Ghana’s decision to withdraw its recognition of the phantom entity serves as a reinforcement of the international legitimacy of Morocco’s claim over Western Sahara. He pointed out that this step contributes to undermining the legitimacy of the Polisario Front and supports Morocco’s steadfast position in all international forums.
The spokesperson added in a statement to “ELKHAABARIYA” that this significant shift is a direct result of the substantial efforts exerted by Moroccan diplomacy under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The Kingdom is witnessing tangible progress in garnering international support for the Western Sahara issue, as evidenced by the endorsement of over 100 countries for Morocco’s stance and the opening of 29 consulates in the cities of Laayoune and Dakhla. This strategic orientation reflects the Kingdom’s success in attracting strong support in the Latin American and African regions.
In his remarks, Al-Dardari highlighted that Ghana’s withdrawal of recognition opens new horizons for Morocco to enhance bilateral relations with the country. Morocco can seize this opportunity to expand economic cooperation with Ghana, one of the emerging economies in West Africa, in various fields such as trade, energy, and agriculture.
Furthermore, the university professor emphasized that Ghana is considered an influential force within the African Union and the Organization of African Unity. He underscored that this decision strengthens Morocco’s capacity to support its territorial unity within the African Union and opens the door for greater pressure in enhancing its territorial integrity both continentally and internationally.
In conclusion, Dr. Al-Dardari stated that Ghana’s move is a testament to the effectiveness of Moroccan diplomatic strategies and its ability to foster solidarity and cooperation among Southern countries for sustainable development.
