The region of Agadir witnessed a significant economic event today, Wednesday, with the signing of a protocol agreement to launch a maritime line connecting the port of Agadir to the port of Dakar in Senegal. The ceremony was chaired by the governor of the Souss-Massa region, attended by several officials and economic actors from both the public and private sectors.
This strategic project is part of efforts to strengthen trade relations between Morocco and West African countries. It is expected to help reduce transportation costs and improve its efficiency by providing a practical and safe alternative to land transport. Furthermore, it will facilitate the transportation of fresh products, particularly fruits and vegetables, to sub-Saharan African countries, enhancing economic cooperation and opening new investment opportunities between Morocco and the region.
The new maritime line is set to bolster Agadir’s position as an economic gateway to West Africa, support the local economy of the Agadir port, and expand its role as a regional maritime hub. Additionally, it will enable several countries, such as Mali, Senegal, Mauritania, and Ivory Coast, to improve their imports from Morocco in the future, fostering economic cooperation and enhancing integration among the continent’s nations.
