Foiling a Major Cocaine Smuggling Operation at the Guerguerat Border Crossing

In a coordinated effort between the national security forces and customs services, authorities thwarted an international attempt to smuggle cocaine through the Guerguerat border crossing, located south of Dakhla, on the evening of Thursday, December 5. The operation led to the seizure of a significant quantity of narcotics, amounting to 136 kilograms and 66 grams of cocaine, destined for the Moroccan interior from beyond the borders.

A meticulous inspection of an international freight truck, bearing license plates from a sub-Saharan African country, uncovered the illicit shipment. The drugs were expertly concealed within the truck’s refrigeration system and chassis to evade detection. The discovery was made shortly after the truck arrived at the border crossing.

Subsequently, the authorities detained the truck driver and his companion, both foreign nationals aged 33 and 38, who hold citizenship from an African country. They were placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor to determine the regional and international connections of this network and identify all individuals suspected of involvement in the criminal operation.

This security operation is part of the intensified efforts by various Moroccan security agencies to combat the illegal trafficking of hard drugs and psychotropic substances, aiming to curb smuggling attempts into the country.
