Injury Keeps Real Madrid Without Bellingham for About a Month

English international midfielder Jude Bellingham will be out for approximately a month for Real Madrid, the Spanish champion and UEFA Champions League titleholder, due to a calf injury sustained during training. Real Madrid announced in a statement, without specifying the duration of Bellingham’s absence, that “after examinations conducted today on Jude Bellingham by the medical staff at Real Madrid, the player was diagnosed with an injury to the soleus muscle in his right leg.”

Injuries of this nature typically require about a month for recovery, according to estimates from Spanish media, which means Bellingham will miss La Liga matches against Valladolid, Las Palmas, and Real Betis, in addition to England’s matches in the UEFA Nations League against Ireland and Finland in September.

Real Madrid’s Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti stated in a press conference on Friday that Bellingham “took a hit, and we are assessing it.” The international midfielder was a key player in Real Madrid’s lineup last season, helping the team achieve a double title in La Liga and the Champions League in his first season with them.

In Real Madrid’s first two matches of this season, Bellingham played in a central midfield role to accommodate the arrival of French striker Kylian Mbappé, having played in a more advanced position last season. The 21-year-old hopes to be ready for Real Madrid’s first match in the Champions League, scheduled to take place between September 17 and 19.
