International Welcome for Decision to Open Humanitarian Corridors in Sudan Talks

The international delegations gathered in Switzerland for the Sudan talks expressed their welcome on Saturday for the Sovereign Council of Sudan’s decision to open the Adri border crossing from the Republic of Chad to North Darfur for the next three months.

The United Arab Emirates, the United States, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Nations, and the African Union welcomed the commitment of the Rapid Support Forces to cooperate in aid transfer operations, particularly through the vital route to Darfur and Kordofan, while also ensuring the protection of humanitarian workers in their efforts.

They explained that these constructive decisions would enable both parties to facilitate the necessary aid to halt famine, address food insecurity, and respond to the enormous humanitarian needs in Darfur and beyond. The statement highlighted that the parties must immediately communicate and coordinate with humanitarian partners to effectively activate these corridors for sustainable, unobstructed access to aid.

It was stated that “the international community and humanitarian organizations must seize this opportunity to deliver aid and save lives, especially for the most vulnerable groups. The work of the international delegations in Switzerland will continue today.”
