Mayor of Bassiknou: Waters Surround Homes and We Fear Human Casualties
Mohamed Ould Sidi Ould Hinna, the mayor of Bassiknou, stated that waters surround the homes in the city, most of which are made of mud, expressing his concern about the potential for human casualties.
In a statement to the Independent News Agency, Ould Hinna explained that the rain continued to fall from 7 PM on Saturday until after midnight, noting the collapse of several houses, although no human casualties have been reported so far.
Activists on social media have circulated videos showing floods submerging homes, reflecting the extent of the natural disaster affecting the area.
The city of Bassiknou, like several regions in the Eastern Hodh, has witnessed heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, increasing worries about the safety of residents and their property.
