Moroccans Call on International Organizations to Intervene for the Release of Young Moroccans from the Grip of Algerian Military Justice

Moroccan activists and rights defenders have expressed their deep concern over the Algerian repression against three young Moroccans who were kidnapped and are being retaliated against for wretched political reasons, a practice that Algeria frequently carries out against young Moroccans caught by border soldiers.

Algerian authorities are expected to begin the trial of the three young Moroccans from the municipality of Midar in the northeastern region of Driouch, following nearly one and a half years of detention in Algerian prisons and the absence of any contact or communication with their families.

The families of the detainees are appealing to all international organizations, especially Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the International Federation for Human Rights, and the Moroccan Association of Human Rights, for urgent intervention to free the victims and seek justice against the charges brought against them by the military regime in Algeria.

Algerian authorities had arrested the three young Moroccans about a year ago after they lost their way while intending to head towards Europe illegally, and they were charged with severe accusations without any regard for applicable international laws.
