Morocco’s Air Transport Sector Sets Record with 18.1 Million Passengers

Morocco’s air transport sector achieved a record number during the first seven months of 2024, welcoming 18.1 million passengers, marking an 18.5% increase compared to the same period last year, according to a report by the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts.

The Directorate pointed out in its latest bulletin, based on data from the National Airports Office, that this growth is attributed to a significant increase in both international transport, up by 17.9%, and domestic transport, which saw a 24.6% rise.

This positive performance was observed across most national airports, with Casablanca Airport recording an increase of 6.4%, Marrakech 30.2%, Agadir 34.6%, Tangier 20%, Fez 11.4%, Rabat-Salé 40.4%, Nador 3.9%, Oujda 10.5%, Tetouan 23.8%, Dakhla 33.2%, Laayoune 9.9%, Essaouira 29.2%, and Ouarzazate 18.4%.

Air transport continued its growth trajectory until the end of July 2024, with traffic increasing by 19% with Europe, 12.1% with the Middle East and the Far East, 16.4% with Africa, 8.4% with North America, and 7.6% with Maghreb countries.

In terms of air cargo and airports, growth was recorded at 24.2% and 14.8%, respectively, by the end of July.

In July alone, the sector set a new record by exceeding 3 million passengers, which represents a growth of 14.8% compared to the same month last year.
