Israeli media reports on Sunday stated that a drone suspected to belong to Hezbollah was detected near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Mediterranean coastal residence.
According to the “Israel Hayom” newspaper, despite the lack of visual confirmation during the incident that occurred last Friday, military officials and the Israeli Air Force did not completely rule out the possibility of a small drone being launched from Lebanon.
Sources confirmed that Netanyahu was not at home during the incident. According to the newspaper, the Israeli Navy reported a suspicious drone off the Mediterranean coast near Caesarea, raising concerns about a potential surveillance attempt by Hezbollah targeting Netanyahu’s home.
The newspaper said that an Israeli Navy missile ship patrolling the area reported the suspected drone. Officials initially believed the drone could be a reconnaissance UAV launched by Hezbollah to capture images of Netanyahu’s residence.
The ship’s radar system detected the unknown aircraft, but other monitoring equipment could not confirm its presence. In response, the Israeli Air Force dispatched fighter jets to the area, but they were also unable to locate any drone.
As a result, Israeli military sources indicate that the incident was likely a false alarm, as radar systems can sometimes misclassify flocks of birds or other objects as threats.
In response to inquiries about this matter, the Prime Minister’s Office issued a brief statement indicating that the incident was identified as a false alarm.
