President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call this evening from U.S. President Joe Biden, discussing the regional situation and efforts to restore regional stability.
Ambassador Ahmed Fahmy, the official spokesperson for the Presidency, stated that the two presidents reviewed the outcomes of the negotiating rounds held in Doha over the past two days. These discussions are part of implementing the joint Egyptian-American-Qatari declaration regarding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the exchange of hostages and detainees, and ending the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza. They agreed to continue and intensify joint efforts in the coming days to reach an agreement in this regard.
The two leaders also discussed the overall current regional situation. President El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s ongoing communications with various parties in the region to urge de-escalation and restraint, in light of the dangerous situation in the Middle East. He stressed the importance of respecting state sovereignty and avoiding a vicious cycle of confrontations and violence in the region, a sentiment appreciated by President Biden. Biden praised the continuous mutual communication and coordination, reflecting the strength and depth of the strategic relations between Egypt and the United States.
The spokesperson added that the call also touched on the situation in Sudan. President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s principled stance on the Sudanese crisis, emphasizing the importance of an urgent ceasefire and valuing all related initiatives to ensure Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, and the safety of the Sudanese people.
