The Russian government has approved a draft law prohibiting citizens of countries that allow gender change from adopting Russian children. This comes after an amendment to the relevant legislation was introduced before it is submitted to parliament.
According to the “Novosti” agency, the Russian State Duma is set to discuss the draft law on September 25. The law was co-authored by the State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and several of his deputies, aiming to prevent the adoption of Russian children or the transfer of guardianship over them to citizens of countries that allow gender change.
Volodin clarified that the law targets countries such as Australia, Germany, Canada, Italy, the United Kingdom, and others, where gender change is allowed either through medical intervention or document amendment, making these countries ineligible to adopt Russian children under the new legislation.
