Spanish Security Arrests “Dangerous ISIS Member” Based on Moroccan Intelligence that Foiled Potential Terrorist Operations

The daily newspaper El Mañana revealed that two days ago, the Spanish Civil Guard in Barcelona succeeded in apprehending a person suspected of affiliation with the “ISIS” organization. This arrest was based on information provided by the Moroccan Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance. The detained individual has been classified by Spanish authorities as a “dangerous terrorist,” particularly after evidence of his involvement in propaganda activities in favor of the terrorist organization and his efforts to find ways to use toxic materials to carry out terrorist attacks was confirmed.

According to Spanish authorities, the invaluable Moroccan intelligence revealed a close relationship between the detainee and eight other individuals who were arrested last July in simultaneous security operations conducted in the occupied Melilla, Madrid, and Málaga. Investigations indicated that the suspect used encrypted messaging platforms to expand his activities, targeting other young individuals and inciting the adoption of extremist ideology.

The Role of Europol and Operations on Toxins

The arrest involved collaboration between the European Union’s law enforcement agency (Europol) and the Spanish Civil Guard, as the search operations related to chemical toxins were linked to the broader context of terrorist threats within Spain. Spanish police pointed out that the detainee was in communication with individuals from other Spanish cities, including young people under investigation since 2023 in the occupied Melilla, as part of early efforts aimed at uncovering terrorist threats.
