Starting Today.. Launch of the Electoral Campaign for Algeria’s Presidential “Play”
The campaign to promote Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who will be endorsed as Algeria’s president for a new term, began on Thursday. The Algerian military has accepted the nomination of only two individuals who will play the role of “extras” in the Algerian election play, nominally competing with Tebboune on paper. The outcome of the ballot boxes and the voting percentage have been predetermined even before election day.
In preparation for the presidential elections scheduled for September 7, the electoral campaign began on Thursday with the participation of only three candidates: President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who will secure a second presidential term; Youcef Aouchiche, president of the Socialist Forces Front; and Hassan Cherif Abdel Ali, president of the Movement of Society for Peace party.
The Independent National Election Authority had rejected the applications of several other candidates for known reasons, including Saida Neghza, president of the General Confederation of Algerian Enterprises, who expressed her anger and surprise at the National Election Committee’s rejection of her nomination file.
