The City of El Jadida Strengthens Its Defenses Against Tsunamis with New Warning Sirens
The city of El Jadida is preparing to receive two warning sirens as part of an international program aimed at enhancing the city’s readiness to face the threat of tsunamis. This initiative is part of global efforts to secure coastal cities against natural disasters and is presented as a gift from UNESCO. The sirens, manufactured in Germany, are specifically designed to issue warnings of tsunami threats with distinctive sounds, helping residents distinguish them from other natural hazards.
Multiple sources reported that the sirens have arrived at Mohammed V International Airport, where they are currently undergoing customs procedures before being handed over to local authorities. Once these procedures are completed, the sirens will be installed at selected locations in El Jadida and integrated with the city’s earthquake warning system and other devices present at the Jorf Lasfar port.
The aim of this step is to bring a comprehensive program to its final stage, aspiring to declare El Jadida as a city fully prepared to face the threat of tsunamis. The program also includes the city of Alexandria as part of this international effort.
The installation of the sirens is considered a crucial step in enhancing El Jadida’s preparedness and protecting its residents, reflecting the importance of international cooperation and Morocco’s role in addressing increasing environmental challenges.
