Tragedy: Five People Drown in One Day at “Ras El Ma” Beach in Nador

The “Ras El Ma” beach in Nador province witnessed tragic events on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, with five beachgoers drowning in two separate incidents.

According to local sources, fierce waves in the area known as “Les rochers” suddenly caught three young men from Jerada province, who worked at the National Railway Office in Oujda. The waves swept them out to sea, leading to their drowning as they were unable to survive due to the rough sea conditions.

The same sources added that the three young men, in their twenties, had joined the National Railway Office about four years ago, working in the train maintenance and mechanics department. One of them had only joined the same department a year ago. Their deaths caused great shock among their colleagues, given their high morals and good work behavior.

In another incident on the same day, a man in his fifties and his 18-year-old daughter breathed their last, drowning at “Kaboyawa” beach, specifically in the “Kamkum Al-Baz” area, according to confirmed sources. The deceased man, who had worked as a teacher in Al-Aroui city during his lifetime, tried to save his daughter from drowning, but they both died together.

The same sources indicated that elements of the Royal Gendarmerie, as well as local authorities and civil protection, moved to the scene as soon as they were notified of the incident. The bodies of the deceased were transferred to the morgue at the Hassani Provincial Hospital in Nador.
