Tragedy in Tiznit: Two Civil Protection Officers Die During Rescue Attempt

A tragic incident occurred in the Ait Melloul community in the Tiznit province, leading to the death of two Civil Protection officers while performing their duty in a rescue operation. The incident happened on Monday morning when Civil Protection services received a report about a person trapped inside a “matfiya” (an underground water reservoir) who had suffocated while trying to remove mud debris.

According to sources from “ElKhabriya” newspaper, the rescue teams responded immediately, but the mission turned into a tragedy when two Civil Protection officers also suffered from suffocation. The suffocation is believed to have been caused by a gasoline engine operating at the bottom of the reservoir, leading to the accumulation of toxic gases.

Local sources confirmed that all rescue attempts failed, resulting in the death of two Civil Protection officers.

This unfortunate incident highlights the risks faced by rescue workers in the line of duty and raises questions about the safety procedures followed in such operations.

The painful incident calls for a comprehensive review of safety procedures and training in rescue operations and emphasizes the importance of providing appropriate equipment and applying best practices to protect rescuers.
