While Awaiting the E-Visa, the European Union Exempts Citizens of 60 Countries from “Visa”
While the e-visa is currently being prepared to be ready by 2027, Schengen Area officials are updating entry procedures. In the meantime, starting from the end of 2024, a new system (ETIAS) will be activated, exempting citizens from more than 60 non-EU countries, including the UK, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, and Australia, from entry visas to the Eurozone, in exchange for a fee not exceeding 7 euros.
Those concerned will be required to apply digitally for a visa exemption to travel to EU territories for up to 90 days. For longer stays, a visa will be required. The “Entry/Exit System” (EES) will be activated in November 2024 to enhance the effectiveness of comprehensive security procedures, requiring travelers to the Eurozone to register their fingerprints and have their photos taken upon entering the European Union.
