The appointment of Amine Tahraoui as the head of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection can be considered one of the biggest surprises of the recent government reshuffle, which was approved by the Moroccan monarch last Wednesday evening.
The new minister is known for his close relationship with Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, having previously served as the Executive Vice President of the “Aksal Group,” owned by Salwa Akhannouch. During his tenure, he led the development of several prominent shopping centers, such as “Morocco Mall,” which gave him extensive experience in business management.
Tahraoui’s career is not limited to the private sector; he also served as the Chief of Staff for Aziz Akhannouch during his time as Minister of Agriculture. He played a key role in implementing strategic policies in the agricultural sector, further solidifying the Prime Minister’s trust in him.
Although his tenure in the ministry ended, Tahraoui maintained his close relationship with the government through his private consultancy firm, allowing him to stay connected to decision-making circles, particularly with the Prime Minister.
Tahraoui began his professional career in investment banking with “Attijari Finance Group,” where he gained financial expertise that helped him succeed in both business and politics. This blend of experience in government administration and the private sector is expected to play a crucial role in his new position at the Ministry of Health, especially given the health and social challenges facing Morocco.
