Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou of Saudi club Al Hilal has entered the list of the top 10 most expensive goalkeepers in the world, ranking eighth, according to a report by Sports Boom, a website specializing in the financial aspects of professional football players.
According to the source, Moroccan Bounou, Al Hilal’s goalkeeper, earns £168,370 per week and £8.8 million annually. The list also includes another goalkeeper from the Saudi Pro League, Senegalese Edouard Mendy, the goalkeeper of Saudi football club Al Ahli, who ranked sixth on the list.
Mendy, Al Ahli’s goalkeeper, earns £185,207 weekly and £9.6 million annually.
At the top in first place is Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper of Germany’s Bayern Munich, earning £353,577 weekly and £18.4 million annually.
According to the report, while forwards are typically the highest-paid football players, good goalkeepers demand substantial salaries as well, earning as much as the highest-paid players in their teams and leagues.
The top 10 highest-paid goalkeepers come from the German, Spanish, French, and Saudi leagues, with none from the English Premier League.
The Spanish league leads the list with three of the highest-paid goalkeepers, while the German, French, and Saudi Pro Leagues each have two.
