Meta, the parent company of Facebook, announced on Friday that it has developed a new artificial intelligence model called “MovieGen,” capable of creating realistic video clips with accompanying audio according to user requests.
Meta stated that this model has the potential to compete with tools from leading startups in the media creation field, such as OpenAI and Eleven Labs.
Samples produced by MovieGen, revealed by Meta, included video clips of animals swimming and floating, as well as clips using real images of people, depicting them, for example, painting on canvas.
Meta mentioned in a blog post that MovieGen can also create background music and sound effects synchronized with the video content, allowing the tool to be used for editing clips.
In one of the clips produced by MovieGen, Meta instructed the tool to place decorative balls in the hands of a man running alone in the desert, while in another clip it altered the setting of a man skating on dry ground to one with a pool of water.
According to Meta, the videos created by MovieGen can be up to 16 seconds long, while the audio track can be up to 45 seconds in duration.
