Painful Reminder of “Daniel”: Southern Libya Floods Claim the Lives of 3 Children

Libya relived the painful memories of Hurricane “Daniel” as floods swept through several cities in the south of the country, submerging entire neighborhoods and resulting in the death of 3 children in Tehalah, according to the Ambulance and Emergency Service announced on Friday. Rescue teams are making rigorous efforts to aid those trapped in the affected areas.

In an immediate response to the recurring disasters, Issam Abu Zariba, the Minister of Interior in the government appointed by the parliament, ordered the security directors of Sabha, Al-Shati, and Ubari, along with the branches of the Central Support in the south, to dispatch four-wheel-drive vehicles to provide assistance in the affected areas, particularly in the city of Ghat and the Tehalah area.

The mayor of Tehalah, Ahmed Kligli, confirmed that rainwater had completely flooded residential neighborhoods, emphasizing an urgent need for blankets and tents to provide immediate shelter for the affected residents.

These events come less than a month after Hurricane Daniel swept through eastern Libya on September 10, resulting in thousands of deaths and missing persons, alongside significant destruction to infrastructure, reflecting the ongoing challenges the country faces in confronting natural disasters.
